SmartTrust, a company which specializes in making software that carriers use to offer mobile data services, has named a new head for Asia.

Singapore-based Joseph Thum has been designated as its new regional managing director for Asia-Pacific, the firm said in a statement.

Prior to joining SmartTrust, the 25-year industry veteran spent 11 years with Nortel Networks. More recently, he was the head honcho for satellite network services provider Hughes Network Systems.

SmartTrust's customers in the region include operators such as India's Airtel, Smart Communications in the Philippines and Singapore's M1.
