The company, which started its third-generation cellular network trials last November, will launch its 3G services tomorrow.
Pricing for video calls has been set at S$0.40 (US$0.24) per minute but other services, such as video streaming, music downloads and Web browsing, will be free until the end of the next month, according to an M1 statement. The firm currently offers users multimedia content such as live feeds of news and variety shows, as well as movie trailers and music videos.
M1 said it is also working to other companies to customize content for 3G phones, including drama serials, as well as sports and entertainment programs.
A company spokesman said pricing details beyond video calls will be announced later.
Existing M1 users can use the new services by buying a new 3G handset and switching to a 3G SIM (subscriber identity module) card. Subscribers of M1's higher-end plans will receive S$10 (US$6.10) worth of free video calls until the end of the year, the company added.
To spur uptake, M1 is offering a pair of Motorola E1000 3G phones for S$1,196 (US$729), while its other 3G handset--the Nokia 6630--will be priced at S$798 (US$486).
