The Singapore-based mobile operator launched commercial 3G services barely a month ago, but announced on Wednesday that it will cut its video telephony rates starting April "in response to customer feedback and market developments".
Under the new pricing scheme, incoming and outgoing video calls between M1 customers will be free for the first five minutes and S$0.15 (US$0.09) per minute thereafter. This represents a significant drop from its original rates of S$0.40 (US$0.25) per minute.
At the same time, the company has unveiled three data plans starting at S$10.50 (US$6.48) for various patterns of usage, plus a pay-as-you-use rate of S$0.0105 (US$0.0065) per kilobyte.
The move puts M1's offerings closer to that of domestic rival SingTel Mobile, which is currently charging customers a rate of about S$0.15 (US$0.09) per minute, with incoming video calls free for users on certain plans.
Singapore's third operator, StarHub Mobile, has yet to confirm pricing for 3G services.
