SINGAPORE--Cisco Systems is supplying US$1.2 million (S$2 million) worth of network equipment for Singapore 2006, a series of high-level meetings involving global financial organizations.
To be held from Sep. 13 to 20 this year at Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre (Suntec), the week-long event is expected to attract 16,000 delegates, including 400 finance ministers, central bank governors and world leaders from organizations like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In the main conference area alone, the network will comprise close to 4,000 wired points, over 40 wireless access points, and the latest security technologies. The entire project is estimated to take 1.5 man-months to complete, Cisco said in a statement Wednesday.
The conference venue will also boast 50 IP (Internet Protocol) communications kiosks showcasing customized XML (Extensible Markup Language) applications developed by Cisco partners, NexLabs and Nanyang Polytechnic. The applications will be both general and conference-specific including real-time financial updates, weather alerts, flight schedules, and program updates.
According to Cisco, the deal was facilitated by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), which oversees Singapore 2006's communications and infrastructure needs.
Singapore 2006 encompasses the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank Group, the G-7 Finance Ministers' Meeting, the Institute of International Finance Annual Membership meeting, Per Jacobsson Lecture, and the International Banking Seminar by the Group of Thirty, among others.
The event is expected to offer S$110 million (US$69 million) worth of business opportunities for local companies, according to event organizers.
