IBM has released a suite of new software products for mobile executives who want to keep an eye on their business, alongside consulting services for companies that want to cut the wires.
The new software additions include the latest version of WebSphere Business Monitor, IBM's business activity-monitoring program, which allows users to design and deploy dashboards to track and report on business-performance metrics over mobile devices, including the BlackBerry. The software will be available for iPhones in the fourth quarter of this year.
IBM has also made its Rational Host Access Transformation Services (Hats) more mobile-friendly. Hats lets developers make mainframe applications securely accessible via Web services or through mobile-device interfaces.
The software giant has also added Rational Business Developer tools to its lineup. The program is aimed at developers who want to build what IBM describes as "Web 2.0-style applications" in IBM's EGL programming language. IBM said its software has been based on open standards and can be used on devices from laptops to iPhones and Nokia S60 mobiles.
The company has also taken the wraps off a mobile consulting-services offering, with a focus on automation and cloud computing. The services, which will be sold under the banner 'Mobility@Work', will combine analytical software and consulting services to help enterprise customers adopt mobile-working practices.
