India's IT services provider Satyam, has announced plans to acquire Motorola's software development facility in Malaysia.

In a media statement released Monday, the two companies said Satyam will assume all assets including 128 employees, of Motorola's software development center in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The center is part of the wireless equipment maker's home and networks mobility business, focusing on the development of network management systems.

"This strategic acquisition will integrate and strengthen Satyam's product engineering services to network equipment providers and operators, in the areas of element management, mobile solutions and access networks," Nishith Mathur, head of Satyam's technology information business, said in the statement.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, subject to regulatory and other customary approval.

Once the acquisition is finalized, Motorola will ink a contract with Satyam for development services of its network management software.

"This unique effort will continue to drive Motorola's strategy in Malaysia, strengthen our competitive position and improve cost structure and operational efficiencies," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, Motorola's corporate vice president for software operations and WiMax and LTE engineering, home and network mobility.

The announcement follows last week's news that Motorola will lay off 3,000 workers and drop support for the Symbian platform.

Motorola last month also said it was holding back its plans to split the company into two separate entities.
