DTAC has sought cooperation from its 200 content providers to help screen inappropriate PR content and short messages, saying their contracts could be scrapped if problems are discovered.
The country's second-largest mobile operator said it was responding to complaints that some providers had sent marketing messages and customers who replied were automatically subscribed to services without receiving details on the service rates or types of content.
DTAC said that in the past it had generally received good cooperation from content providers through prior screening of all SMS and content to be sent to customers by the mobile operator.
But lately, it said, some content providers had been abusing the system and sending messages directly to customers.
DTAC said that if it found evidence of inappropriate message content or unfair service rates, it would take step-by-step measures ranging from warnings to suspending services, fining offenders or terminating their contracts.
The company said it was ready to offer refunds to customers if they were exploited by the content providers.
