Transmeta had a loss of US$26.2 million, or US$0.30 a share, compared with a loss of US$13.1 million, or US$0.46, a year ago, the company said. Transmeta said it had US$12.4 million in sales in the quarter.
Transmeta's Crusoe processor is winning acceptance in laptop computers and wireless Internet systems because its design helps batteries last longer. Earlier this month, a unit of Royal Philips Electronics NV said it would use the processor in some computer displays.
The company said that without amortization costs for license agreements and deferred stock compensation plans, its loss in the 2000 fourth quarter would have been US$17.3 million, or US$0.20 a share.
Transmeta said it had no revenue in the year-earlier quarter.
The shares of Santa Clara, California-based Transmeta rose US$0.50 to US$23.06. The company held its initial public offering in November at US$21 a share. The shares were recently quoted at US$22.00 in after-hours trading.
