SINGAPORE--The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has bought S$500,000 worth of storage solutions from StorageTek South Asia Pte Ltd.

Implemented last November, StorageTek's PACS Archive Storage Solution enabled SGH to digitize and centrally manage patients' medical data, the US-based storage firm said in a statement today.

Thus, the time taken to retrieve data is reduced by 35 percent, a StorageTek spokesperson claimed, which could mean life and death in an emergency.

Other benefits include data back up, workflow efficiency as well as opportunities in data sharing among hospitals and tele-medicine.

"The performance of the tape drives and library is superior to that of our previous optical disks solution, particularly for very large files," said SGH project manager Lawrence Ang.

"In addition, the solution is scalable to meet our future storage requirements," Ang added.
