The companies will meet the press at 4pm Hong Kong time to announce the agreement. Brian Hilton, president of global operations for Avnet Electronics Marketing will attend the event.
Avnet and its largest rival, Arrow Electronics Inc have a 40 percent share of the global market for distribution of chips and other electronic parts. The two companies expect China to be one of their largest markets after the nation enters the World Trade Organization later this year.
Post-WTO, China will need to reduce import tariffs on electronic components. More electronics manufacturers are moving to China to compete in the second-largest mobile phone market and the fastest growing market for personal computers.
