According to International Data Corporation (IDC) Australia and New Zealand printer analyst Les Champkin, color lasers are the way of the future - while they represented only 0.9 percent of total printer sales in the first half of 1999, they dragged in 9.2 percent of overall printer revenue.
The latest IDC figures place Hewlett-Packard in the number one spot in the market, with 40.7 percent. Tektronix is second with 23.3 percent. Lexmark is a distant third, on 12.7 percent.
Says Champkin: "The laser market is forecast to go the way of the inkjet market and three years from now we'll all be sitting around wondering what ever happened to the mono laser printer!"
