NEW YORK--Walt Disney's ABC News and the New York Times Co. said they will provide joint coverage of certain news events over television and the Internet, including a daily Webcast on the U.S. presidential race.

Starting Jan. 24 through the November election, they will co-produce a 15-minute Webcast to be shown simultaneously on ABCNews.com and NYTimes.com. The report, "Political Points," will feature reporters from both companies and include the latest news on the presidential campaign.

In addition, ABC and the New York Times will work together to produce news stories on technology and health for ABC's "20/20" and "Good Morning America" programs.

Traditional media companies are looking for ways to build their online businesses as more consumers rely on the Web for timely news. In addition, newspaper publishers and TV broadcasters are seeking to expand their reach to attract more advertising and compete better with rivals from cable and the Internet.

The New York Times previously had a partnership with cable news channel MSNBC, a joint venture of General Electric's NBC and Microsoft. That ended in November, when MSNBC agreed to share news stories with the Washington Post Co.
