SingTel will offer a promotional price of 9 cents per minute to nine destinations including the US, Australia, Hong Kong and UK.
For instance, the current lowest international direct dialing (IDD) rates per six seconds for the US and Australia are S$0.08 and S$0.09 respectively.
According to SingTel, eVoiz allows customers to make overseas calls and surf simultaneously with no second line required. The service also comes with a free dialer and is subscription free.
"Our aim is to ensure that there is an international call service and facility that meets every customer needs and budget," said SingTel Corporate Products vice president Lim Eng.
"As the Internet becomes more widely used in Singapore, we see a need to offer an international call service to our Net savvy customers who want to make international calls while surfing the Net," Lim added.
eVoiz is available to over 200 destinations worldwide from Singapore but calls may be made from any part of the world where users can access the Internet. As the calls are routed via the Net, the quality of the calls is dependent on availability of bandwidth on the network, SingTel explained.
From next Wednesday, users can download the dialer and purchase Talktime in various options--such as purchasing a prepaid card--which comes in denominations of S$10 and S$20, which will be sold at selected distribution outlets such as SingPost.
Customers can also charge the purchase to credit cards or their existing SingTel account. There will also be a 24-hour customer care hotline (at 1-800-333-1133) for eVoiz users.
SingTel estimates that eVoiz will boost its international call traffic by another ten million minutes by year end.
SingTel closed at S$2.80, up S$0.07 or 2.56 percent on the Singapore Exchange today.
In terms of competition, a similar PC to phone service is available from Nasdaq-listed Net2Phone Inc.
New non-US users can get 100 minutes of free calls but they would have to first purchase US$8.95 worth of talk time.
Net2Phone is bundled with Netscape Communicator and is a Yahoo! exclusive Internet Telephony Provider.
