Xerox's complaints related to Hewlett-Packard products that use inkjet, color balancing and resolution-enhancement technology. Hewlett-Packard, based in Palo Alto, Calif., filed complaints against Xerox products that use touch-screen, inkjet and image- enhancement technology.
In January 1999, Hewlett-Packard settled another lawsuit it had filed against Xerox that claimed the copier maker violated trademarks on toner cartridge packaging.
The companies said in a statement that they will focus on competing with each other in the marketplace rather than in the courts."
