KUALA LUMPUR--Microsoft (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has today announced a bundle of incentives to the local market in an effort to boost its e-commerce business.

The software giant is combining the strengths of its Internet products and services with the Microsoft Site Server Commerce and SQL Server 7.0 softwares.

The bundle, valued at approximately RM28,000, comes with promotional incentives such as banner ads on MSN Malaysia, listings with MSN's Business Directory for 12 months, and promotions on MSN Malaysia worth up to RM100,000, said Microsoft Malaysia in a statement.

Microsoft aimed to make the Internet a part of corporates' daily business operation--combining software, online services and expertise.

"We believe this value-added offer is key to building an effective and scalable e-commerce platform. It will provide organizations a first-class opportunity to jumpstart their e-commerce strategy and take full advantage of the Internet," said Microsoft Malaysia managing director Butt Wai Choon.

He said every business, regardless of industry, faces three main business imperatives: to focus on customers and partners; to attract and maintain the best workforce; and to maintain flexible internal infrastructures that allow the organization to adapt quickly to the ever-changing business environment.

The company claimed its MSN portal addresses a key challenge of e-commerce sites today--the retention and sustainable growth of users.

"With MSN, businesses can rely on Microsoft not only to provide the technology but a means to also promote and market Malaysian businesses worldwide. Hence MSN's network of services in advertising, partnership and small-business services will help local companies increase its reach and be more competitive in the new Internet economy," said Microsoft Malaysia consumer group director Jason Lim.

In addition to the portal, Lim said Microsoft's e-commerce strategy focuses on two other essential elements: platform and partners.

"The platform refers to a set of software technologies and products that implements and support e-commerce. Our platform starts with Microsoft Windows leading on to a feature rich product for business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce, which serves as a universal access point to provide consumer and business users with secure access to e-commerce services," he said.

Partners meanwhile, provide businesses a choice in e-commerce solutions, and ensure the successful implementation of their e-commerce systems.

The e-commerce package promotion runs this month until June 30 this year.
