KUALA LUMPUR--Asian Internet content company Asiacontent.com Ltd marked its foray into Malaysia today, establishing an office presence that is set to contribute to the country's vision of becoming a knowledge-based society.

The company aims to play a significant role in the country's aspirations to become a technology center by providing its family of vertical Web sites and partnerships with various local vendors.

As a start, Asiacontent.com announced the revamp of Malaysia.CNET.com, Malaysia's source for computers and technology on the Web, that will further spur the fulfillment of the country's National IT Agenda (NITA).

Malaysia.CNET.com features the best of local and international technology news and services, including industry analysis as well as hardware, software and games reviews.

It will be the consummate technology site offering comprehensive, up-to-date features on local computer news and the emerging trend of technological convergence for consumers in Malaysia. Additional hardware, software, e-commerce options and tech-stocks sections are in the pipeline.

"The new look and features on Malaysia.CNET.com further solidifies CNET and Asiacontent.com's commitment to provide cutting-edge technology news and services in the Malaysian cyberspace," said Asiacontent.com chief executive officer Chris Justice.

Asiacontent.com general manager (Singapore and Malaysia) Yeo Guan Kai said the differentiating factor of Malaysia.CNET.com is the customized content and services that cater specifically to the technology needs of Malaysians.

"We're excited to bring new features and services from CNET to our loyal Malaysian audience. CNET Asia continues to equip users with all the resources to evaluate their options on technology purchases," he said.

To further its reach to consumers, Malaysia.CNET.com has formed strategic alliances with various local Internet Service Providers and portal sites, including Skali.com, Jaring and The Intel Internet Café project.

CNET Asia is the fruition of a joint venture between CNET Networks Inc and Asiacontent.com, to build a family of localized CNET Web sites in Asia. Singapore.CNET.com was the first in February 1998 and to date, there is Hongkong.CNET.com, Taiwan.CNET.com, Korea.CNET.com and China.CNET.com.

Established in May 1999, Hong Kong-based Asiacontent.com integrates branded content sites, advertising sales through its DoubleClick Asia network and e-commerce services.

In April this year, the company was listed on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "IASIA".
