SOHU.com, the popular mainland Internet portal, has announced an alliance with China Mobile Communications (CMCC), a China state-owned telecommunications enterprise, to provide real time 2000 Olympic Games information to over 50 million mobile phone users in China.

Mainland China mobile users can order information about the Olympics through www.sohu.com and CMCC’s short message system will deliver the information to their mobile phones.

All mobile phone users with short message supporting functions will be able to access this service for a fee and will be able to receive comprehensive information and updates about the Games. Through the mobile phone display cell, users will also become the focus of a targeted advertising campaign, promoting brand icons and consumer products.

To provide Web-users with current 2000 Olympic Games information, SOHU.com launched a new Web site. The site provides a wide range of information including news; athletic profiles; Olympic history; travel information for Australia; details regarding the Chinese Olympic delegation and analysis of the sports Chinese athletes will be participating in.

Mobile phone users throughout China will be able to choose the information desired from over three hundred scheduled sports programmes. The various menus will include real-time coverage, schedule reminding, instant results, instant statistics and Olympic features. Real time news will be transmitted to mobile phones as short messages.

Earlier this year, SOHU.com jointly developed a mobile Internet service with Nokia, introducing the first wireless application protocol (WAP) service in China. Through the service, mobile users are able to receive email alerts, real time stock quotations and a calendar.
