The figure mentioned is a far cry from last year's number of RM224 million, MDC senior vice president Dr Arif Nun told reporters at a media briefing for msctrustgate.com.
"E-commerce has been growing by more than 100 percent in this region and as for Malaysia, we expect transactions done through the Internet next year would amount to RM1.622 billion," he added.
Arif also said e-commerce transactions in the Asia Pacific region would surpass RM20.9 billion this year compared to the RM8.36 billion recorded in 1999.
Msctrustgate.com is the second certification authority company in Malaysia providing security services like issuing digital certificates, establishing public key infrastructure and providing cryptographic technology to various internet markets.
It is a result of a joint venture and is 60 percent owned by Meitech Development Sdn Bhd, an investment arm of MDC and 40 percent by private investors, including Lityan Holdings and Verisign Inc of the US.
