The New Straits Time quoted the Free Industrial Zone Penang Companies Association (Frepenca) president Wong Siew Hai as saying that the companies expedited the shipping of their goods to the US over the past weekend.
"The impact of the four-day backlog in shipment cannot be determined as yet. We have to monitor the situation this week," he said.
Shipment of goods to Asian and European destinations were not affected by the attacks.
"Our priority is to get the past days' backlog cleared as fast as possible, for which we hope logistics companies can help," Wong said.
"Some of our members have already acknowledged receipt of shipment to the US," he added. Frepenca members include Intel, Motorola, Agilent Techologies, Seagate, Iomega and Quantum.
The Department of Civil Aviation Penang manager Ooi Chuan Leong meanwhile was reported to have said the inventory build-up for electronic goods at the airport, factory and third-party warehouses was essentially for products headed for the US.
"Flights from Penang have been departing daily. Since we do not have direct flights to the US ... goods flown out of Penang for the US were headed to regional hubs for further shipments to American markets."
