Oracle on Wednesday announced that it has released a preview version of Oracle Application Server that complies with the specifications of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.4. The goal of the preview release is to help programmers get familiar with the latest features in its Oracle Application Server 10g, the company said.

The J2EE 1.4 specification makes it simpler for Java programmers to build Web services applications. Oracle's preview edition is available for free. IBM and Sun Microsystems have already announced that their respective Java application servers have passed J2EE 1.4 compliance tests.
