INDIA--Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced the opening of a second research and design (R&D) facility in Hyderabad.
Dirk Meyer, the chipmaker's president and COO, was in the Indian city to inaugurate the new 30,000 square-foot center, which will accommodate a growing team of R&D employees focusing on next-generation AMD graphics and computing technology.
"India's talented pool of engineering resources makes it one of the most important technology centers in the world," said Meyer. "AMD's inauguration of our fourth R&D facility in India and second in Hyderabad is recognition of the caliber of talent and design expertise that resides within the country. The sheer creativity and energy of the teams in India gives me confidence that we have our resources in the right place globally."
Dasaradha Gude, vice president and managing director of the AMD Hyderabad R&D Center joined Meyer at the opening ceremonies. "The original Hyderabad center has been working on leading-edge technology over the last four years," said Gude. "Those designs are in many of the most popular consumer electronic devices today."
"We are very proud of our achievements in very high-end, intensive design work. The new office showcases how we have grown and will continue to contribute to AMD in the future."
The Hyderabad center includes AMD's Center of Excellence for audio technology, and has designed multimedia products for leading companies in consumer electronics, including mobile phones, game consoles, LCD panels and TV tuner cards.
The chipmaker in November last year also opened a silicon design and platform R&D site in Bangalore, India.
