Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has joined Californian solid-state storage start-up Fusion-io.
Wozniak will take the position of chief scientist, and will aid the formulation of the company's strategy. He will also act as a technical advisor for Fusion-io's research and development activities.
"With the revolutionary technological advances being made by Fusion-io, the company is in the right place at the right time with the right technology and ready to direct the history of technology into the 21st century and beyond," Wozniak said in a statement last week. "The technology marketplace has not seen such capacity for innovation and radical transformation since the mainframe computer was replaced by the home computer. Fusion-io's technology is extremely useful to many different applications and almost all of the world's servers."
The company sells high speed solid state drives, including the ioDrive, an attached SSD; the ioSAN, a networked enterprise SSD; and the ioXtreme, a consumer product.
Wozniak joins the firm after serving on the company's advisory board.
Last autumn Wozniak gave a speech at Innovation World, where he said innovators have to fiercely respect their goals and not fear straying from the norm.

Wozniak joins SSD start-up
Wow, I wonder if he will make an iDrive that costs twice as much as as regular SSD's, but isn't the fastest and will have " I'm a Fusion commercials" which will make fun of all other SSD's. Kind of how the mac adverts do. After all, gaining market share by making fun of your competitor is the Apple way. I also remember this fart trying to cheat his way into winning on dancing with the stars. And for all you itards out there ready to claim that apple also invented the SSD 1st, they didn't.
