SINGAPORE--AAC Acoustic Technologies Holdings has located its new international headquarters and research and development (R&D) centre here, as the company Wednesday officially opened its local unit, AAC Technologies.
According to a press statement released Wednesday, AAC said it has earmarked around S$20 million (US$13.8 million) over the next five years on R&D activities in Singapore, where the company will carry out additional R&D and test-bedding activities for new concepts.
Its R&D center currently focuses on Micro-Electro-Mechanical (MEMS) chip design and process research for MEMS microphones that are used in electronic consumer products such as mobile phones, digital cameras and notebooks, as well as in the automobile and transport industries.
AAC is collaborating on MEMS research with the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), a member of Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star), with the aim to develop cost-effective, high-performance MEMS microphones.
Benjamin Pan, CEO of AAC Accoustic Technologies, said audio quality in mobile handsets and other electronic devices are becoming relatively important as competition in the market increases. As such, the company is committed to advance its research and product development efforts in miniature acoustic components.
The Singapore office of the miniature acoustics components manufacturer also handles functions that include corporate training, technical support services and sales, marketing control and planning.
