Indian Police Academy serves up phishing site

The SVP Indian Police Academy was yesterday notified that it was hosting a phishing site posing as the Bank of America.

Security company F-Secure alerted the Police Academy to the problem. "All we know at this stage is that somehow their server has been compromised and uploads a phishing site," said Patrik Runald, security expert with F-Secure.

"What we don't know is, if you did submit something to the site, where it would be sent."

The SVP Police Academ--which offers a course in cybercrime--and India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT In) have been notified and the phishing site has since been taken down.

A clear sign the Bank of America phishing site is fraudulent is the U.S. Olympic sponsorship logo used, which refers to its sponsorship of the team between 2000 and 2004.

This is the second major Indian Web site to experience trouble of late, with the Bank of India online being compromised by several trojan attacks in August.
