SINGAPORE--A group of 18 software vendors and IT services providers have banded together to encourage businesses to migrate from legacy application environments to the Windows platform.

Launched last week, the Asia-Pacific arm of the Mainframe Migration Alliance aims to raise awareness of the migration from legacy applications to the Windows platform, and allow businesses in the region to share resources to address issues involved in the migration process. The Mainframe Migration Alliance was established in April 2004.

Businesses in the Asia-Pacific region can also tap on the global community portal to network with industry partners. The alliance will also "provide co-marketing, sales and support to partners and customers" in the migration process, said its director Spyros Sakellariadis, in an e-mail to ZDNet Asia.

"It is a valuable resource for enterprise customers in the region, especially with the growing customer interest in moving off the mainframe to Windows Server," he added.

The alliance partners include Accenture, Avanade, EDS, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hexaware Technologies, Intel, Microsoft and Unisys.
