CA has announced that it is acquiring XOsoft, a disaster recovery software maker, to expand its data protection and management services.
XOsoft's technology will allow CA to offer additional security, backup and recovery tools, CA said Tuesday. XOsoft offers recovery management products used to minimize the amount of time applications are down and aim to help companies recover data with minimal loss.
"CA has 300,000 customers. We will now offer them a full suite of recovery management products to solve customers' needs, from continuous data protection and snapshot management to vaulting and everything in between," Bob Davis, senior vice president and general manager of storage business for CA, said in an interview.
XOsoft said it offers access to file and application servers, including Windows Servers, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft IIS and Oracle, which helps companies to recover e-mail and other applications after a disaster.
"XOSoft brings 1,600 customers in 42 countries, and we are growing about 25 percent to 20 percent quarterly," XOsoft CEO Leon Shtilman said in an interview.
Shtilman said his company also brings two significant patents to CA. One concerns XOsoft's so-called assured software and soft installation technologies. Assured software minimizes the time and expense of disaster recovery testing. XOsoft's soft installation offers the ability to install software without needing to reboot. Both of these products will be part of the BrightStor product line, according to Davis.
"XOSoft not only brings data protection, but we are happy to take on the organization in terms of their leadership and performance as a company. They are a clear leader in that space and will be highly synergistic with our ARCServe products," Davis said.
CA did not disclose the terms of the deal with the privately held company. XOsoft is headquartered in Waltham, Mass., with additional offices in California, Israel and New York.
