Microsoft has simplified the conferencing procedures used in its handset-based unified communications client, Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2.
The client now allows users to join conferences with a single click, rather than having to go through the process of entering dial-ins and entry codes. The meetings will need to have been arranged through Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2.
Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 is the current version of the handheld client for OCS, Microsoft's unified communications system. It lets the user engage in instant messaging, voice and video conferences, and works on Windows Mobile and certain Java-enabled phones.
The enhancement was one of several made available for the client through an update on Monday. The others include an option for Communicator to avoid logging into roaming networks, in order to avoid heavy data-roaming fees.
Microsoft has also come up with a Communicator plug-in for the upcoming revision to its Windows Mobile handset operating system, version 6.5. The plug-in will show the user's presence status and the number of ongoing conversations in which they are involved.
Users of Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 can download the update directly to their handsets through Microsoft's GetCoMo.com Web site.
