An edgier entry into the social-networking field, CouchSurfing is a way for you to find places to stay all over the world--literally, people who have couches for you to crash on. Think of it as the ultimate budget vacation, even though it might be even less glamorous than that backpack-and-stay-in-hostels plan you had for next summer after finals. But when you think about it, it can potentially be a great way to meet locals and discover new cultures. You could even get some kind of sociology paper out of it.



If it seems a little creepy, well, that's understandable. There are a variety of "trust controls" in place, including name verification through credit card data, but it's still always good to be careful.
