This month, Brother and PalmOne hope to tug at your purse strings with alluring new devices while McAfee releases the latest iteration of its desktop firewall package.

A multitasking Brother
The new Brother multi-function laser printer not only aims to boost productivity in your office, it hopes to serve as an aesthetical enhancement in the process. Sporting a two-toned exterior, the MFC-7820N packs a mean punch with laser printing, laser faxing, laser copying, color scanning, and PC faxing functions all rolled into one. It is also equipped with network management tools which allow administrators to manage the printer from their Web browsers, and even receive e-mail alerts when supplies are running low. It is priced at S$748 (US$454) and comes with a two-year on-site warranty.
McAfee toughens desktop defense
McAfee has released the latest iteration of its desktop firewall software package. Aimed at both small and large enterprises, McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.5 provides multi-layered protection through inbound and outbound traffic monitoring, policy enforcement and reporting, intrusion prevention and application monitoring. The product also allows IT administrators to specify access policies when users log onto the corporate network remotely, depending on their mode of access. For example, unique control policies can be set for dial-up, broadband and virtual private network connections.

PalmOne's new Tungsten catches the eye
PalmOne has launched the latest update to its successful Tungsten E handheld. The new Tungsten E2 hopes to catch the eye of mobile professionals with a brighter 320 x 320-pixel screen resolution. It is powered by a 200MHz Intel XScale processor and comes with 32MB of RAM non-volatile flash memory, which can be expanded through an SD/MMC expansion slot. Bluetooth connectivity is built into PalmOne's new PDA, although Wi-Fi capability is still lacking. The handheld is priced at S$418 (US$254).
