CIO 1-on-1 Q. What was your biggest lesson learnt or memorable experience in 2005?
I've learnt that complicated and expensive software is not necessarily the best. Sometimes, the simplest and cheapest is better.

Lim Chin Siang, CIO, Media Development Authority of Singapore, wishes to see the introduction of articial intelligence-based software for business use
What will be the top three technology trends/issues in 2006?
  1. The trend towards mobile access of information using a personal digital assistant/smart phone type device will further push the thin client concept to a higher level. A simple mobile device is able to access highly complex and computationally intensive information through a central database.
  2. Reconfigurable hardware and software may well see the light in 2006.
  3. Software with some learning abilities, like the Sony Aibo, is already appearing in security software and appliances. Such artificial intelligence-based software may start assisting humans in doing their work.

What is the one thing you'd like to see from tech vendors in 2006?
Smaller and highly effcient software with some artificial intelligence built in.
