Dell Latitude E6500
Reviews The Latitude E6500 is an attractive 15.4in. notebook, not least because you can configure it to closely match your needs. The backlit keyboard is well executed, and we also like the auto-adjusting screen brightness.

Samsung Q210
Reviews Samsung's Q210 is a trendy-looking 12.1in. notebook with appeal beyond its nominal consumer niche. It's an excellent performer with a great keyboard and plenty of wireless options.

Sony Vaio VGN-BZ11MN
Reviews The Vaio VGN-BZ11MN is a cost-effective 15.4in. Centrino 2 notebook. It's solidly built if somewhat uninspiring, and you may want to opt for its £100 more expensive stablemate to get a higher-resolution screen.

GETAC B300
Reviews Like many seriously rugged notebooks, the B300 is an expensive piece of kit. We particularly like the 'sunlight readable' screen option and touch-screen capability, although its 4:3 aspect ratio makes this 13.3in. notebook seem a little dated.

Apple MacBook Pro
Reviews Apple's new 15in. MacBook Pro has a redesigned aluminium body, a new touchpad with expanded functionality and a dual graphics setup for either longer battery life or better performance. However, there's now less incentive to spend extra on a Pro because its 13in. mainstream cousin received a greater overhaul.

Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook S6420
Reviews The LifeBook S6420 combines portability, 3G support and an integrated webcam, and supports an optional second battery in the optical drive bay. Although we have a few gripes, it's a good choice for the mobile professional.

Apple MacBook
Reviews Apple's redesigned 13in. MacBook is essentially a shrunken version of the more expensive 15in. Pro line. With its new aluminium body, new touchpad and Nvidia graphics, it's an even more attractive choice for mainstream notebook buyers than was the plastic model it replaces.

Sony Vaio VGN-Z11WN/B
Reviews Beautifully designed and reassuringly robust, the 1.5kg Vaio Z11 marries a decent-sized 13.1in. screen with good portability and integrated 3G/HSDPA. It's not flawless, but if you can afford it, buy it.

Acer TravelMate 6463WLMi
Reviews The TravelMate 6463WLMi is a large and well-specified Core 2 Duo notebook with an excellent high-resolution 15.4in. screen. It should perform admirably as a largely desk-bound business system, but you won't want to carry it far.
