Dell Latitude E4200
Reviews Dell's smallest Latitude is a 1kg, 12.1in. ultraportable that benefits from a fast solid-state hard drive and integrated mobile broadband. However, it lacks an optical drive and, inexplicably, a webcam.

Dell Latitude XT2
Reviews The Dell Latitude XT2's key feature is its largely successful multi-touch capability. Build quality is excellent, but the absence of an integrated optical drive is a nuisance and battery life is disappointing.

HP Compaq 6720s
Reviews The 6720s is a budget business notebook that could fit the bill if you don't need serious CPU or graphics power, and are likely to spend most of your time in the office rather than on the road.

Asus U2E
Reviews The 11.1in. Asus U2E is slim, sleek and distinctive, although the leather trim may not be to all tastes. It's not a great performer, but battery life is good. This is an ultraportable that style-conscious executives should consider.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-52
Reviews The Toughbook CF-52 is a solidly built 'semi-ruggedised' notebook, with a hardened outer casing, shock-mounted hard disk and covered ports. However, this 3.3kg system isn't the most portable of notebooks and its battery life falls a long way short of Panasonic's claims.

GETAC B300
Reviews Like many seriously rugged notebooks, the B300 is an expensive piece of kit. We particularly like the 'sunlight readable' screen option and touch-screen capability, although its 4:3 aspect ratio makes this 13.3in. notebook seem a little dated.

Sony Vaio VGN-Z11WN/B
Reviews Beautifully designed and reassuringly robust, the 1.5kg Vaio Z11 marries a decent-sized 13.1in. screen with good portability and integrated 3G/HSDPA. It's not flawless, but if you can afford it, buy it.

Panasonic Toughbook Executive CF-T7
Reviews The 'business ruggedized' CF-T7 could easily pass as a standard notebook, but the extra-strong chassis, shock-mounted hard drive and spill-resistant keyboard should all help to cushion it from the rigours of life on the road.
