The National Police Agency of Taiwan is currently working on a smartphone app to allow citizens to report crime more easily and help speed up police response to an incident, says a local report.
In a Wednesday report, Taiwanese news site Now News said the app is expected to be completed by end-July. The app will include GPS functionality which will automatically report the crime location, it noted.
Wang Cho-Chiun, director-general of the National Police Agency, said in a press conference that the app will complement the existing 110 emergency phone systems. He added that the app will benefit the hearing impaired as well as those who are not able to talk on the phone when reporting the crime.
The Taiwanese police is not the only agency using smartphone apps to simplify the reporting of crime. Last year, the Dallas Police launched an app which allows citizens to text the police anonymously to report of crime, according to reports. In early-February, a private company launched a smartphone app for crime reporting which is able to include photos, video and audio, reported Forbes.
