Q. I'm a Web programmer with a dot-com company in Singapore. I'm thinking of crossing over to a competitor as a senior Web developer.

How much should I be expecting in renumeration? Career advice from Wong Shee Yoong, Manager (Application), Adecco Information Technology:

A few considerations before quoting renumeration expectations:

1. How relevant will your current technical skills be to the senior position that the competitor is offering?

2. Typically at a senior level, the job scope may include some analysis work apart from pure development. You will have to ascertain if you possess any analysis exposure from your current employment. This will determine the salary that you can expect.

3. As a benchmark, a 10 percent to 20 percent increase from your current salary will be a reasonable expectation.

Editor's note: According to ZDNet Asia's IT Salary Benchmark 2006 Survey, system developers in Singapore, which include Web developers, command an average annual salary of S$51,363 (US$32,902).
