ZDNet Asia's Top Tech Index 2008/2009

In its third installment since its launch in 2005, ZDNet Asia's Top Tech 50 Index 2008/2009 will once again recognize the tech industry's movers and shakers. The Index identifies technology companies that have performed financially well over a period of time, have a proven track record, and have demonstrated a strong commitment to the Asian market. Like previous years, selected companies will be unveiled and profiled in a special report--to be launched in December 2008--on the ZDNet Asia site.

Judging

ZDNet Asia Editors will make the final decision, and have enlisted the help of an independent panel of advisors comprising analysts and IT leaders.

The technology industry is vast, and there are thousands of technology players that offer a wide range of products and services. Thus, ZDNet Asia's Top Tech list will focus on companies that provide infocomm technology products and services, targeted specifically at businesses.

These are the key industry categories that have been identified:
1. Systems 5. Networking and Communications
2. Storage management 6. Security
3. Software infrastructure 7. Services
4. Business applications 8. Internet services (including Web 2.0)

Over the coming weeks, ZDNet Asia will study hundreds of infocomm technology companies and the trends shaping Asia's business technology landscape. The top 50 companies will be selected based on several factors including market activities, performance, industry standing and product/technology developments. The companies will be judged on six key performance indicators, weighted as indicated:
