Ten years ago, Canon's competitors were only the copier manufacturers like Ricoh and Fuji Xerox. With its expanded portfolio, which today includes multifunction printers and document management solutions, Canon's rivals include technology vendors like Hewlett-Packard and Dell Computer.
Founded in 1933, the Japanese tech giant is a household name among corporates with its printers, copiers and scanners. Canon aims to be No. 1 in all of its core businesses which span both consumer and commercial business markets.
In 2006, Canon embarked on the third phase of its "Excellent Global Corporation Plan" which was introduced with the aim of building a worldclass technology organization. After phase three, Canon plans to increase its research activities to discover new technologies while seeking to develop new business domains.
Canon Singapore oversees the island-state's domestic market as well as four subsidiary businesses in Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and India. The revenue contribution from its consumer and business divisions is 65 percent and 35 percent, respectively.
