Headquartered in Lake Forest, California, Western Digital is the second largest hard disk drive seller worldwide.
The storage giant, which was founded in 1970, started making hard-disk drives in 1988, and its products can now be found in an array of machines, including desktops, notebooks, handheld devices, as well as enterprise storage.
In October this year, Western Digital started shipping a new storage system that can store up to one terabyte (1 TB) of digital content for.
Early this month, the storage seller reported 25 percent growth in revenue for its first fiscal quarter that ended in September, to US$1.3 billion, and 49 percent growth in net income to US$103 million in the same period last year, according to the company. Sixty-five percent of the company's first quarter revenue came from hard drives configured into desktop PCs, while the remaining 35 percent came from non-desktop PC sources.
The company currently employs approximately 24,750 people worldwide and has manufacturing plants in California, Malaysia and Thailand.
