Brother's long history dates back to 1908 as a maker of sewing machines.
Since launching its first high-speed dot-matrix printer in 1971, the Japanese electronics conglomerate has become a household name among consumers and businesses. Today, Brother's line of business products includes a slew of lasers and multifunction products, bringing it head-to-head with rivials Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Fuji-Xerox and Lexmark.
In January 2004, Brother set up its flagship regional solution center in Singapore in a bid to strengthen its push into the corporate printer market. Built at a cost of S$500,000 (US$295,000), the new facility will serve as a showcase and product testing ground for potential enterprise customers in the republic.
In July 2006, Brother announced it had developed a RFID label printer and was using it to jointly develop an RFID tag labeling system with Dai Nippon Printing Company. This is part of a three-year strategy which includes developing new business by investing in the network and imaging devices field.
