Google

No mention of Google would be complete without its search engine. A name that is synonymous with "online search", Google is the world's leading Internet advertising and search company.

Google's power in the Internet search market was to grow further when it inked a search-advertising pact with Yahoo in June this year. However, the deal raised antitrust concerns and the U.S. Department of Justice said it would seek to block the deal if the two Web giants pressed ahead. Google finally backed away from the deal in November.

Established in 1998, the Internet giant is headquartered in Mountain View, California, the United States. It now employs 17,000 people globally.

The company gets its revenue from advertisements through its Internet search, e-mail, online mapping, office productivity software, social-networking and video-sharing services.

According to recent statistics from Netcraft, for the month of October, Google has more than 10 million Web sites under its wings.

Google ranks among ZDNet Asia's Top 10 fastest-growing companies for 2008/2009.

This company is listed in Software infrastructure, Services, Internet.
