Dell Computer

It has been more than a year since Dell made its foray into the retail market, and the world's No. 2 computer maker has since inked some 40 partnerships to sell its products through retailers across the Asia-Pacific region.

Founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, the company headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, now has 88,200 employees around the world.

Recently, Dell officially entered Taiwan's retail market when it made a pact with IT distributor Genuine C&C to offer desktops, notebooks and LCD products to customers. Taiwan is Dell's 12th retail market in Asia.

The U.S. computer giant which sells PCs as well as non-PC technologies including storage systems, mobility products, enhanced services and software and peripherals, ranks 106th in the 2008 Fortune Global 500 list.

In a bid to save costs amid the economic gloom, Dell employees were recently asked to take time off without pay.
