Huawei Technologies

Huawei Technologies' footprint expansion into the United States came to a naught when the U.S. government thwarted its attempt to buy a stake in American network security equipment maker 3Com.

The US$2.2 billion acquisition, originally expected to be finialized in the first quarter of 2008, was first announced in 2007 with private equity firm Bain Capital as the major owner and Huawei taking a minority stake.

The Chinese telecoms equipment maker was also rumored to be spinning off its mobile phone, notebook, wireless data-card and home router businesses. In May, South China Morning Post reported that telecommunications giants AT&T and Vodafone were looking to buy a 50 percent stake in Huawei's handset division.

Founded in 1988, Huawei is headquartered in Shenzhen, China.

Huawei ranks among ZDNet Asia's Top 10 fastest-growing companies for 2008/2009.

This company is listed in Networking & Communications, Internet.
