Seagate Technology

Seagate has no immediate plans to move into the flash memory and solid-state drives (SSD) market even though they are gaining popularity.

The American storage stalwart is happy with its progress in the main disk-drive market, Seagate's chief executive Bill Watkins said at a press event in London recently.

Nonethless, the company will continue to work on ideas and is working on its first solid-state drive.

Earlier this year, Seagate revealed that it aims to ship its two-billionth hard-disk drive within the next five years.

Seagate, which was founded by Al Shugart at the dawn of the computer revolution in 1979, was the first company to build 5.25-inch hard-disk drives for the PC and helped define the hard-disk drive business. Some three decades later, disk drives are still the core business of the Scotts Valley, Calif.-based company.

This company is listed in Systems, Data storage management.
