David L. Way, D.D.S., M.S.: HP Scanjet Scanner Brings Smiles to Orthodontics Office

Document scanning goes on all day long at Dr. David Way's orthodontics office in Fort Collins, Colo. The staff scans patient medical records, X-rays, billing documents, insurance records, checks - all the documents it takes to run a thriving, efficiently managed practice with a high standard of patient care. Until recently, the office used three scanners not manufactured by HP for this work, but the machines were slow and required multiple steps to scan documents into patient files. Then Dr. Way tested an HP Scanjet N7710 Document Sheet-feed Scanner. The change was dramatic: fast scans, simpler workflows, fewer filing errors and significant time savings.

Retina Network Security Scanner: Intrusive Vs. Non-Intrusive Vulnerability Scanning Technology

There are two methodologies used for performing vulnerability assessment regardless of patch assessment or compliance verification. One philosophy revolves around the need to penetrate a system to prove its vulnerability and the other uses available information to postulate the status of the vulnerability. Longstanding discussions have centered on the merits of either type of scanning, as well as their potential liabilities. In summary, since a vulnerability assessment scanner emulates an attack, each of these methods mirrors an attacker's style for compromising a host.

Sauer-Danfoss Uses Motorola Bar Code Scanners to Track Hydraulic Motor Parts and Increase Scanner Lifespan in Harsh Manufacturing Environment

Sauer-Danfoss, a manufacturing company, equips vehicles with hydraulics. The company has 20 manufacturing units distributed worldwide, and it builds and manufactures hydrostatic transmissions, mobile electronics, steering components, motors and valves, as well as products for open circuits and electro-hydraulic steering systems. The challenge was harsh manufacturing environment containing hydraulic oil which cuts through plastic scanners. Sauer-Danfoss is now using Motorola scanners at many of its manufacturing plants worldwide. Although many of the scanners are fixed to the assembly environment, where this would become inconvenient and detract from productivity, Sauer-Danfoss uses Bluetooth wireless scanners.

Optimizing the Data Center With Server Application Optimization

As storage and network administrators continue to deploy more IO intensive tier-1 applications, powerful servers to support these applications, and virtualized environments to consolidate resources, the ability to deliver true end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) becomes increasingly important within an enterprise-class data center to meet the committed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The purpose of this document is to explain the technical and business benefits of deploying QoS across a Fibre Channel (FC) network infrastructure for both non-virtualized and virtualized environments. HP B-series FC Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) combined with a new FOS license called Server Application Optimization (SAO) extends hardware enforced QoS capabilities from the fabric to the server infrastructure, optimizing application performance.

Delta moved to web services; this triggered a decision to migrate to a more sophisticated approach to SOA as well. The airline selected TIBCO ActiveMatrix as its SOA platform, and HP SOA Systinet for its SOA governance and registry solution. Although Delta Air Lines was confident in the capabilities of the software it purchased, it also recognized that it needed more than software.
