50 days ago by MicrosoftThe Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a best practice framework - providing technology neutral concepts techniques checklists and procedures for managing IT environments. Since its beginning Sun has embraced ITIL practices as a core component in its delivery of IT services. The presenter examines the newest release of ITIL - version 3; how its life cycle approach integrates service management and business strategy; and how Sun can help IT organizations exploit ITIL v3 for networked services.

92 days ago by MicrosoftChange management planning revolves around a specific, well-defined, measurable, realistic, and achievable project. Managing change starts at the beginning - during the planning stage - and runs through a project's conclusion, addressing the gradual transition and ongoing support of employees charged with implementation. Those who recognize its importance typically do it well, but too many others make major investments in IT without planning for change. Technology cannot be effective unless people know how to use it effectively and embrace it.
131 days ago by Optical Image TechnologyNHS Connecting for Health wanted to build a planning and management architecture for the National Programme for IT (NPfIT), a US$21.05 billion (GB£12.7 billion) multiproject initiative to transform service delivery through technology and manage 10-year rollout of NPfIT to over 300 hospitals (270 general, acute hospitals) in England to give thousands of clinicians secure access to patient records. The challenge was to minimize risk and cost of schedule overruns for all projects and facilitate real-time data sharing between dispersed teams for collaborative planning and forecasting. NHS Connecting for Health implemented Oracle's Primavera Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to provide a consolidated planning and progress reporting database for all NPfIT activities.

To ensure the software underpinning these transactions is up-to-date, Sony Life must be able to effectively govern the change management process and promptly release new software into its mainframe environment. CA Endevor Software Change Manager (SCM) provides the company's more than 400 developers with central access to mainframe software assets in development and production. The solution has enabled Sony Life to automate core processes, such as release management, reduce the risk of source code conflicts and identify efficiency improvements.
192 days ago by CA (Computer Associates)Implementing a change management system can have many benefits, particularly in terms of improving efficiency and reducing outages and downtime. It also provides a useful audit trail that can save huge amounts of time in meeting government compliance requirements. To gain the full benefits of change management requires software that is easy to configure, integrates with other systems and provides a high level of automation without burdening users with a steep learning curve. It also requires internal commitment in terms of thinking about the processes that should be subject to change control and how they should work in organization. With the unbeatable combination of an adaptive and powerful product and a well thought-out process design, the benefits can be huge and well worth the commitment.
196 days ago by EnterpriseWizardThis paper describes the development of TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) and ITIL as a background to discussions about the potential overlap in the processes they both describe. It does not describe the models themselves. The development of information systems in large organizations, and in multipart supply-and-demand chains, has become complex and flexible. The way in which systems are being designed and managed depends increasingly on a structured approach. Best practice models are based on the experience of day-to-day users and therefore they support their needs. Their development follows the requirements of the organizations that use these models. In a way they change from descriptions of best practice to theoretical models on how processes should work in practice.
