ZDNet is available in the following editions:
Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) provides top-down application management for Oracle technologies including Oracle packaged applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database and Oracle VM. However, it is often critical for an administrator to receive alerts from applications that are not managed by OEM. Many of these applications can be configured to trigger SNMP traps when an alert condition takes place. One can receive these traps within OEM and start monitoring those applications from OEM. Since OEM is optimized for analyzing historical alerts, having the capability to receive and analyze SNMP traps raised by such applications allows one to extend OEM's monitoring and alerting capabilities to these applications and reduce monitoring complexity in the IT environments.

79 days ago by Oracle DownloadSince Java saw the light of the world in 1995 applications built with it are getting more and more complex. Over time many models or architectures where developed to conquer the increasingly complex requirements. Unfortunately, the solutions will not get lighter and easier but rather more difficult and complex. Every new component increases the latency and makes the solution slower. When things get slow, the usual suspects are always the technologies in use. Depending on the technical background it might be either the database or the middleware. The network or the browsers are usually the least suspected ones. Of course, this is unfair until proven and the network or the browser can have a tremendous impact.

171 days ago by Oracle DownloadThe cost of keeping current is represented as both time and money. Much of the "money" side of the equation is typically sunk cost in terms of the cost of the software and services combined with maintenance dollars paid to the solution provider. The time and effort to upgrade is an investment necessary to gain value from money already spent on software, implementation, and maintenance. Companies all too often fall into the trap of circular logic. They can't spend the time therefore they don't get the value, but without the value, they can't justify the time.
