Implementing Oracle 11g RAC on Sun Solaris Cluster Geographic Edition Integrated With EMC SRDF

EMC SRDF' support for Sun Solaris Cluster Geographic Edition (SCGE) was first announced in 2007, with many new features unveiled in 2008. In preparation for Oracle OpenWorld 2008, EMC worked with Sun Microsystems m a collaborative project to showcase the integration between Sun SCGE and EMC SRDP. A live demonstration featuring Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) and single instance databases running on this integrated cluster framework was conceived and carried out at the trade show by both parties. The purpose of this joint effort was twofold: To showcase an online Solaris Cluster environment that leverages SRDF data replication to enable highly available, site-failure-tolerant applications, as well as to further develop EMC' s working relationship with Sun.

Solaris: The Carrier Grade Operating System

Telecommunications systems, both hardware and software components must provide Carrier Grade service with all that the term Carrier Grade implies. The world's first telecommunications systems certified to be NEBS Carrier Grade by Telcordia, then Bellcore, were the Sun Netra systems operating with Solaris. Those systems came directly in response to requests from the telecommunications industry for Sun to provide Carrier Grade systems to replace the proprietary systems that the telecommunications industry had developed thus far. Those and subsequent systems operating with Solaris on other platforms have become the foundation of telecommunications networks throughout the world.

Solarflare Solarstorm 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller

It's not long ago since one is asking - does one need Gigabit Ethernet. Now one is asking: does one need 10 Gigabit Ethernet? Well, there's a very obvious answer to that question. If one now has lots of gigabit connections to the desktops and laptops alike on the network, then simple arithmetic dictates that, in order to accommodate all of these gigabit connections, one needs something larger than a gigabit core backbone and server connections. Hence the 10 Gigabit arguments and the emergence of products such as Solarflare's Solarstorm 10 GbE controller that one is testing here.
