YouTube was subjected on Sunday to disruptive attacks that made use of a parsing error in the comment system to redirect visitors to sexually-explicit websites.

Google, which owns YouTube, confirmed the situation in a statement issued on Sunday, but said it had effectively disabled the attack within an hour by removing the comment system and applying "a complete fix" within two hours, subsequently re-enabling the comment system.

According to researchers at security firm Trend Micro, the attack used a cross-scripting vulnerability in the comment section of the website to run malicious JavaScript code, largely used for redirecting visitors to porn sites. Some infected videos saw erroneous pop-up messages proclaiming that the singer Justin Bieber was dead.
