SINGAPORE--Six major mobile operators from Asia have signed a partnership deal with Yahoo to extend the distribution of its mobile search service in the region.

Announced Wednesday on the sidelines of CommunicAsia, the new deals will enable customers of Globe Telecom in the Philippines, India's Idea Cellular, LG Telecom from South Korea, Maxis Communications in Malaysia, Indonesia's Telkomsel and Taiwan Mobile, to access Yahoo oneSearch on their mobile phones.

The six mobile operators have a combined subscriber base totaling almost 100 million.

Already available in other Asian markets--Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam--oneSearch allows mobile users to access news, financial data and weather reports, download e-mail, search and view images on the Web.

The announcement follows Tuesday's top management shakeup which saw the departure of Yahoo's head honcho Terry Semel, making co-founder Jerry Yang the company's new CEO.
